New Zealand Golf Club is one of the hidden gems of the Surrey heathlands. Founded in 1895 by Hugh Fortescue Locke-King, the course was laid out by top amateur golfer of the time, Samuel "Mure" Fergusson, who was also the General Manager until his death in 1928. The following year, the Club engaged renowned architect Tom Simpson to carry out some modifications and minor changes, and the result is a masterpiece of strategic golf design. Short by today's standards at 5,947 yards, the course nevertheless provides a stern challenge to golfers of all levels with plenty of long par 4's and a great set of short holes. Stunningly defined by heather, rhododendrons, and pine trees, the course provides a beautiful, natural setting, and the understated but well-equipped clubhouse is a perfect environment in which to enjoy first class post-round refreshments.
The 2010 Financial Times Business Championship finished on a high with the final event of the season taking place at the exclusive New Zealand Golf Club on Tuesday 3rd August.
