Qualifying Event: Saturday 16th October 2010
The Grand Finals of the 2010 Financial Times Business Championship took place from 16-18 October at Quinta do Lago's stunning Laranjal Course, with finalists staying at the luxury Monte da Quinta Suites Hotel. Flights were provided by Monarch Airlines.
Twelve business teams of four players qualified for the Grand Finals, having won qualifying events staged throughout the year at some of the UK's most prestigious courses, including Sunningdale, Wentworth, Royal Birkdale and Kingsbarns. All finalists received clothing from Oscar Jacobson and a dozen Callaway Tour iz golf balls.
Finalists enjoyed a practice round and two competition rounds at Laranjal Course. At 6,480 meters, the Par 72 course provided a good test of golf for competitors, in the beautiful setting of umbrella pines, orange trees and natural water features.
Drewsmith Ltd took an early lead after Round One scoring 79 points. RF Fielding were two points behind on 77 points, with Batley Barless Fire Co and Barton Willmore a further point behind. Following the first round, competitors were joined at dinner by European Tour star and Jaguar Ambassador David Howell.
It was all to play for in Round Two of the championship with 6 teams within 4 shots of the lead. However, Drewsmith Ltd were able to maintain their form during the second round to finish on a total of 158, 6 shots clear of RF Fielding and Batley Barless Fire Co, both of whom finished on 152. All three teams took home prizes from Inkerman's Crystal Collection.
Glyn Andrews from Batley Barless Fire Co was clearly on form, also winning the Nearest the Pin Competition and taking home a Callaway FT-iZ driver. Pamela McGuirk from Ramac Holdings won the Longest Drive Competition and was awarded an Odyssey Black Series putter.
Drewsmith Ltd were crowned champions during the Gala Dinner at the Monte da Quinta Suites Hotel.
